Things I'm Looking Forward to in January

January can feel like a pretty bleak month, right? The bright lights, festive joy and merriment of Christmas and New Year are a thing of the past. There's not much to look forward to and the weather's usually a bit shit. It's no wonder, then, that the January Blues are a much talked about thing! I've felt them creeping up on me over the last few days, not gonna lie, and I'm doing what I can to keep them at bay. I'm hopeful that writing out this blog post will help. After all, there's bound to be at least a few things I'm looking forward to this month, and if I can focus on them then maybe I can beat the January Blues!

1. New nails. This is something I know I can always look forward to every month. Don't get me wrong, I adore my festive nails, but I'm so looking forward to a fresh set. Right now I'm torn between marble or stained glass effect. You guys will have to wait for my January Favourites post to see what I go for in the end!

2. Harley's birthday. My cat turns FIVE this month. FIVE?! It seems like just yesterday we bought home this tiny little ball of fluff. And now he's this big boy who's growing up so fast. I've bought him a new cat scratching post for his birthday, as his upstairs scratch post is looking a little worse for wear. And I'll treat him to lots of cuddles, treats and play on his birthday too!

3. Book releases. There are some smashing new books out this month from some of my favourite authors that I've, of course, pre-ordered. Like One Of Us Is Next by Karen McManus, The Dilemma by B. A. Paris and Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton to name a few.

4. My grandma's birthday. Although I can't be with her to celebrate in person this year (transport issues), I'm excited to buy her a lovely present and card. I absolutely love treating those I love to nice things. They deserve it!

5. Star Wars. Finally, this month I'll be seeing the new Star Wars in the cinema. And I can't wait! I've loved Star Wars since the original films were released when I was just a little girl.

6. Date nights. We started going on date nights at the end of last year, but had to take a break from them because lol, Christmas made us broke. But we're going to start up date nights again. We've already been to the cinema together to see Jumanji. And we're planning a crazy golf trip in the next week or two, too!

7. Our 9 year anniversary. This month Chris and I celebrate 9 years together! We don't really celebrate this anniversary as such; it's only our dating anniversary after all. But we still wish each other a happy anniversary. And 9 years is pretty momentous. Next year it'll be a decade!

8. Pay day! I think we're all looking forward to our January pay cheques, right? Christmas and New Year tends to make us skint, and the January pay day seems to take so long to come around.

9. The Sims: Tiny Living. I'm always excited for a new Sims expansion pack. And this one looks really good. Murphy beds, guys!

10. Starting our fostering application. I'll talk more about this in a long-overdue Let's Talk Babies post later this month/next. But we're starting our fostering journey this year and the next step in that journey is to fill in and hand back our application form. Wish us luck. And if you have any experience of fostering in the UK please get in touch! I'd love to speak to people who've been through it all before.

When you sit down and really think about it, it's surprising how many things you can find to look forward in even the bleakest of months!

So tell me, what are you looking forward to this month?
