Book Review: White Bodies by Jane Robins

Felix and Tilda seem like the perfect couple: young and in love, a financier and a beautiful up-and-coming starlet. But behind their flawless facade, not everything is as it seems.

Callie, Tilda's unassuming twin, has watched her sister visibly shrink under Felix's domineering love. She has looked on silently as Tilda stopped working, nearly stopped eating, and turned into a neat freak, with mugs wrapped in Saran Wrap and suspicious syringes hidden in the bathroom trash. She knows about Felix's uncontrollable rages, and has seen the bruises on the white skin of her sister's arms.

Worried about the psychological hold that Felix seems to have over Tilda, Callie joins an Internet support group for victims of abuse and their friends. However, things spiral out of control and she starts to doubt her own judgement when one of her new acquaintances is killed by an abusive man. And then suddenly Felix dies--or was he murdered?

A Day In My Life

Let me start this post by saying; my life is not that exciting! I work from home, three days a week. The other two days of the week, I spend catching up on chores, spending time with friends and family, reading or gaming. And on the weekend, well, much of the same to be honest. But since it's been nearly three whole years since I last posted an "A Day In My Life" blog post, I thought it was about time I share an updated one! This post documents a working from home day in my life. Enjoy!

Cruelty Free Hair Care* || With Organic Shop

For more years than I care to mention, I've been using Herbal Essences to shampoo and condition my hair. And in doing some research for this post, I've come to learn that although Herbal Essences claim to be cruelty free, their parent company do test some products on animals. I am shook. Anyway, long-term Herbal Essences fan, now a total convert to a new range of hair and body care products that are 100% cruelty free.

5 More Things I've Learnt From An Emotional Resilience Course!

If you haven't read the first post in this series, then let me just explain what this is all about. In January, I started on an Emotional Resilience Course with the NHS, aimed at helping people cope with anxiety and depression. I've learnt so much from this course, and decided to share what I learnt with you, here on my blog! I don't know how many of these posts there'll be after these two. Possibly one, or two, more. Like I said, I've learnt a lot. I highly recommend reading my first post, 5 Things I've Learnt From An Emotional Resilience Course, before you read this one. But it's okay if you choose not to, this one will work on it's own too!

Book Review: Ragdoll by Daniel Cole

One body. Six victims.

William Fawkes, a controversial detective known as The Wolf, has just been reinstated to his post after months of psychological assessment following allegations of a shocking assault. A veteran of the force, Fawkes thinks he's seen it all. That is, until his former partner and friend, Detective Emily Baxter, calls him to a crime scene and leads him to a career-defining cadaver: the dismembered parts of six victims sewn together like a puppet - a corpse that becomes known in the press as the "ragdoll."

Fawkes is tasked with identifying the six victims, but that gets dicey when his reporter ex-wife anonymously receives photographs from the crime scene, along with a list of six names, and the dates on which the Ragdoll Killer plans to murder them. The final name on the list is Fawkes. Baxter and her trainee partner, Alex Edmunds, hone in on figuring out what links the victims together before the killer strikes again.

But for Fawkes, seeing his name on the list sparks a dark memory, and he fears that the catalyst for these killings has more to do with him - and his past - than anyone realises.

Haul Post!

If you thought my recent book haul was bad, wait until you see everything I've been buying lately. I'm thinking of putting myself on a spending ban this month. I definitely need to get things back under control. But until's what I've been buying lately.

I am SO excited about this haul, guys. Okay, so half of it was needed for the awful cold I was suffering with at the time. But the other half? Well, I can't tell you how excited I was to finally get my hands on a Carmex Skinnydip London Sugar Plum Lip Balm. This was released last year and was limited edition, but sold out before I could grab one. They were re-released earlier this year as a gift set; lip balm and a key-ring for £10! So when I finally saw just the lip balm, I grabbed one quicker than you can say "ka-ching." I've also been lusting after the Treacle Moon Marshmallow Hearts Bath and Shower Gel since Christmas, and finally found a big bottle of the stuff in Tesco. Winning!
