An interview with...twentysomethingxo!

I can't believe this is the penultimate post in this series. And it's not just the penultimate post in this series this year. It's the penultimate post in this series forever. I've come to the, very difficult, decision to not continue this series into 2017. As much as I love shining the spotlight on other bloggers that I love, I feel like, after two years of "An interview with..." it's time for a change. What that change will be in 2017, I don't quite know. But I will be replacing this series with something else that allows me to share the blogger love, so watch this space! Today I'm interviewing the wonderful Charlotte, of twentysomethingxo. And without further preamble, it's over to her....

1.       Hi Charlotte! First of all, tell me a little bit about yourself and your blog?

Why hi there! My name is Charlotte from twentysomethingxo, a beauty and lifestyle blog with a splash of adventure, music and food thrown in for good blogging measure.

2.       And what inspired you to start twentysomethingxo?

At school, I had one English teacher who made me fall in love with writing, and I went on to study Journalism at The University of Sheffield. After I graduated, I stayed in the city with my boyfriend for another 9 months, because he was on a four year course. As you can imagine, I was a lost and confused graduate clutching onto the straws of student life, but reality sunk in and I needed a job pretty quick to pay the bills, so I took something in finance. This was definitely not my calling and although the people were lovely and the job was easy, I knew that I needed to keep my passion for writing alive, which is when I decided to start my blog. I did not expect to fall head over heels for the blogging world, the community, the creative freedom and the opportunities, but it's one of the best decisions I've ever made!

3.       What are your favourite types of posts to read?

I love reading 'What I Got for Christmas/Birthday/haul' posts, plus favourites, empties and lifestyle posts too, when it comes to travelling posts, I think picture heavy content is what captures my attention, after all, a photo says a thousand words... I'm also obsessed with Corrine, her advice posts on blogging are incredible, from how to optimise your presence on social media, to the best features about a blog and SEO, this girl is so wise!

4.       How has blogging changed your life?

I honestly cannot remember what I did in my spare time now. It's given me so many different skills, and I believe that I wouldn't have got my job working in social media if it wasn't for the experience which my blog has given me over the last year or so. I've also met some amazing people who are becoming really good friends, and that's amazing! Although we may be all at different stages of our lives, with different 'day jobs' we all have one thing in common and can talk for England on the subject!
5.       What has been the highlight of your blogging career so far?

Tough question! Naturally, I get a buzz when a brand contacts me about working with them, in fact I got invited to the launch of a new Sunday Sharing menu at Marco Pierre White's New York Italian when I lived in Sheffield, and I got to take my boyfriend, my step-sister and her husband, which was so lovely. I couldn't believe my blog had led to such a brilliant opportunity! I have also made some blogging friends both on and offline, I just wish I had enough holiday from work to go and visit the ones who live at the other end of the country!
6.       If you could give one piece of advice to new bloggers, what would it be?

Just one piece of advice? That's so hard, I've learnt SO much! I could write a post on it, in fact you might have inspired an idea here Aimee ;) In the cringey words of Ronan Keating, "Blogging is a rollercoaster, you've just gotta ride it" haha, no seriously, there are lows. There are times when you will want to hit the delete button and just crawl into a corner and question why you're even bothering, you will feel so depressed about photos, content, the pressure of trying to keep up with a schedule or even find yourself frustrated because life gets in the way sometimes, but with the lows there are a MILLION highs. You'll receive comments on your posts that will touch your heart, you'll find yourself in conversations with the most fascinating people, you will learn so many new things about photography, social media, editing, sense of style, but most of all you will be part of an exclusive club i.e. the amazing blogging community. I say it's exclusive, because honestly not everyone can blog, not everyone has the dedication, passion or indeed bravery to put themselves out there, So every time you hit publish, you have created a piece of writing, a piece of art even, which you should be proud of!
7.       So, what do you hope for the future of twentysomethingxo?

Oh it's good to dream hey?! Ideally I’d love to be able to be self-employed and earning an income from home, partly through my blog, but also other online opportunities too. I met some amazing local bloggers at an event recently, who have taken the plunge and they've really inspired me to step up my game!
8.       And what are your own personal life goals?

I swear this changes on a daily basis, however, one of my dreams since I was around 8-years-old has been to go to Australia; it's still on my list and will be until I tick it off! It will always be a passion to travel to new countries and revisit the places I fell in love with. Ultimately, of course it would also be to buy our own home, FYI the saving has commenced! Wish us luck!
9.       Besides blogging, what are you passionate about?

I am passionate about trying new things, last year my boyfriend and I made the spontaneous decision to throw ourselves into the sea and go paddle boarding, and we cannot wait until we can get back in the water when summer comes around! Ultimately though, my other love in life is music. Rarely a day or a week after a gig goes by when I am not planning or booking the next one. From small intimate gigs to festivals with tens of thousands of people, I'm at peace when I can get lost in the music. This year we are seeing Years & Years, Mumford and Sons at Hyde Park, and Jamie Lawson as well as going to a festival.
10.   Finally, tell me three random things about you?!

I am a hopeless romantic whether it is films, books, songs or quotes, I go weak at the knees haha. I feel most relaxed when I am on the beach watching the sunset and finally, my favourite 'cocktail' is an Oreo and Baileys milkshake ;)
I just want to say thank you so much Aimee for asking me to be a part of your blogger interview series! I am really touched that you care what I have to say, this is a first for me and it's been so much fun answering your questions.
And a massive thank you to Charlotte, for taking part in this series and for being so prompt in sending over her interview responses! Next month, for the final instalment in "An interview with...," I have a mystery interviewee. So keep an eye out for that post! And if you have any suggestions for a new series you'd like to see in 2017, let me know!
