An interview with...MilkPop!

Hurray. I actually remembered to post one this month! I mean, it's maybe a little early in the month for one of my "An Interview With..." posts. But if I do it whilst I remember then there'll definitely be one this month. Today I'm interviewing the lovely Sophie, the blogging lady behind MilkPop. I've been following Sophie's blog for a while, and she's such a huge source of inspiration to me. So it's amazing to be featuring her on my blog! Hopefully, I'll be able to turn a few of you guys on to MilkPop; a blog you need to be reading!

1. Hi Sophie! First of all, tell me a little bit about yourself and your blog? Hi! I’m a 27-year-old queer cisgender woman, and I live in Cardiff, South Wales with my husband and two cats. I write a blog called MilkPop, where I ramble about beauty products, lifestyle and mental health.

2. And what inspired you to start MilkPop? I was reading blogs years before I started my own, and I used to daydream about how I’d review the makeup I was using. One Friday night I just thought, “Well, what’s stopping me?”. At first I kept it pretty private, but I slowly started engaging more with the community and finding new blogs to read, and my passion only grew from there!

3. What are your favourite types of posts to read? I love personal, anecdotal posts that let me get to know the blogger. Things like life updates, What’s In My Bag posts and weekly round-ups always grab my attention.

4. How has blogging changed your life? It’s really built my confidence. I had a rough time at school and college, and before I started blogging I found it difficult to trust people. Blogging introduced me to a positive, supportive community where I felt respected and valued, and I’ve made amazing friends from all over the world. I genuinely can’t imagine where I’d be without it!

5. What has been the highlight of your blogging career so far? Every time someone tells me they like my blog is a highlight! I have had some brilliant opportunities though, like being invited to a CoLab event where I met (and took a ridiculous amount of selfies with) Ruth Crilly!

6. If you could give one piece of advice to new bloggers, what would it be? Stay true to yourself! Don’t let anyone tell you what your blog should look like or what you should or shouldn’t be writing about. Some of the best bloggers are the ones that write for themselves and nobody else.

7. So, what do you hope for the future of MilkPop? If I could one day get to a point where I could blog for a living, that would be fantastic. But mostly, I just want MilkPop to become a blog that people enjoy visiting and can relate to, and one that has a loyal reader base, whether that base is large or small.

8. And what are your own personal life goals? I’d love to continue progressing with my mental health, build a career I love (I’m going back to University this September so I’m on my way!) and surround myself with people who make me happy.

9. Besides blogging, what are you passionate about? I’m an ardent feminist and try to use my blog and social media to address inequality whenever I can. Mental health issues are also close to my heart, and a number of my blog posts talk about misconceptions and stigma behind mental illness.

10. Finally, tell me three random things about you?! 1. I’m a Taurus. 2. I’m not religious, but I believe strongly in karma. 3. I was on the front page of the South Wales Echo when I was 7.
