An interview with...GirlGoneDreamer!

In this fifth interview in a series featuring interviews with awesome bloggers, I'm interviewing the wonderful Justine of GirlGoneDreamer! Justine is a dreamer, and a writer. She is currently working on two projects; a fiction novel, and a non-fiction novel. When she's not busy with her novels, she has a nine to five job in a dental practice. How she fits in blogging about fashion, beauty, makeup and books, I'll never know!

I have a lot of respect for Justine, who juggles many balls, is very ambitious and, I hope, will go far! Now, here's Justine to tell you more in her own words...

1. Hi GirlGoneDreamer. First of all, tell me a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Hi Aimee and of course a huge hello to all your readers! I go by the name GirlGoneDreamer for my blog but my actual name is Justine.
I work at a dental practice five days a week, the rest of the time you can usually find me with either my head in a book or my notepad. GirlGoneDreamer is a little bit of me. I've done some book reviews, more personal pieces and author interviews. The future will see more of a mix. Beauty, makeup, fashion and career advice. I'll be doing a spotlight on different occupations! Watch this space...

2. And what inspired you to start GirlGoneDreamer?

Over the last two years I'd seen blogs popping up everywhere! I'd be reading a magazine and see a feature on the latest fashion blogger. Then I'd be scouring the net and would come across internet sensations, Zoe Sugg, Louise Pentland and Tanya Burr. Initially I was curious so I started reading their blogs, following them on Twitter etc. It just looked like so much fun and I was aware if done right, it could even launch a new career. I needed something in my life to focus on, something to distract me from the goings on that I was struggling with. So I thought what the heck, I'll give it a go. I started with a small blog, more of a tester I suppose on WordPress and called it Just Captivates. But soon after I caught the blogging bug badly and wanted a more professional looking site. So I researched. It turned out Zoe Sugg had used blogger.com. By all accounts it seemed to have worked for her. So I set a new site up through that.
I'm also hoping that my blog will help prove to prospective publishing houses that I'm worth the risk. To me it's personal, my novel is my baby, my blood, sweat and tears. But to them it's just business. And like anything, you have to prove your worth.

3. What are your favourite types of posts to write?

I'd have to say the more personal posts. It's hard to click the publish button once finished but the writing process itself is effortless. It just comes naturally to me.

4. How has blogging changed your life?

I wouldn't say that blogging has changed my life. (Unless you include the time I've had to dedicate to it! I certainly have to cram a lot of things into a lot less time these days!) However I would say that it's brought me into contact with some of the most incredible people. I have so many lovely internet friends and I wouldn't change that for the world.
It's also helped boost my confidence a little.

5. What has been the highlight of your blogging career so far?

Hmmmm. Tricky question. Interviewing author of All The Bright Places, Jennifer Niven is up there at the top. Being contacted by a huge publishing house also made me very happy. But I guess overall? It's seeing the viewing numbers rise after every post. The notion that anyone reads my blog is alien to me, i'm constantly surprised and grateful. And receiving messages from readers saying I've helped them a little or inspired them is wonderful. It's what it's all about!

6. If you could give one piece of advice to new bloggers, what would it be?

Just be yourself. And try not to compare yourself to others or your blog to other blogs because it can be soul destroying. Secondly, enjoy it!

7. What are your hopes for the future of GirlGoneDreamer?

I'd like to think more of the same. I'm just enjoying it all at the moment. And I try not to think or plan too far ahead. That said, I'm looking forward to some new, different posts. More author interviews. Who knows what the future holds?!

8. And what about your own personal goals?

Ooooh there are so many. To share my novel with the world and hope my words make a positive difference to even one person. To eventually open a bridal shop with my good friend Zoe. To fall head over heels in love again. And to live day by day, in the moment without worrying so much.

9. Besides blogging, what are you passionate about?

Here's just a few as I have so many....

Books. Young adult fiction. Quotes. Wall art. The countryside. Writing. My nephews. Dance. And anything wedding related!

10. Finally, tell me one random thing about yourself.

I'm weird. But I have to check my bed EVERY night for spiders before I can get in!!

Justine, it's been a pleasure interviewing you. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I can't wait to see what the future holds for you!

Next month, I'll be interviewing the lovely Laura, of elelibee!

Keep up with my latest posts, follow me :)
